Curacao water quality

Curacao's beautiful nearshore coral reefs are being overgrown by algae. Lack of proper wastewater treatment on the urbanized island has led to a degradation and eutrophication of nearshore waters. Overfishing of reef herbivores has exacerbated the problem.
