Recover and Recycle Ocean Plastics from islands and remote coastal areas

Posted by Tristan Lecomte | Chiang-Mai, Thailand

Once floating plastics and wastes have entered the ocean, they float and land on beaches of islands and remote coastal areas, and go back to the sea during storms and high-tides if they are not collected. The market price for recyclables on land does not cover for recovery and transport of these plastics and wastes from islands and remote areas.
With Second Life, we support informal collectors on beaches and islands in Thailand to collect and transport these wastes to regional recyclers so that they are properly recycled. In 2020, we helped collect 663 tons of ocean plastics. We are looking for support to expand our activities in Thailand and other countries.
